It is with heavy hearts that AKA Head Start announces the passing of our beloved board member, Mabel Wigfall, who served as a cornerstone of our Board of Directors for over 20 years.
Throughout decades of service, Mabel remained a steadfast advocate for the agency’s mission. Bringing her expertise as a retired school principal to the boardroom, Mabel provided guidance during critical periods of organizational change, acting as a "co-pilot" to our leadership and a mentor to countless new board members.
Her contributions were not just measured in years, but in the profound impact they left on the children and families served. She will forever be remembered for her infectious optimism, integrity, and her natural essence of caring for others.
Who we are today is a tribute to the work Mabel did over the past 20+ years. While her presence in the boardroom will be deeply missed, Mabel’s legacy will continue to guide our work for decades to come.
